[ARCHIVED] Kootenai County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit Responds to Major Injury Traffic Collision

Sheriff Placeholder

On 7/27/23 at approximately 0910 hours, the Kootenai County Central Dispatch Center received a call of a vehicle collision between a van and a John Deere Tractor near the intersection of N Meyer Road and Emmanual Avenue. KCSO Deputies along with members of the Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and found a passenger of a 2011 Chevy work van unconscious and unresponsive. The passenger was transported to Kootenai Health, where he remains in critical condition.

The KCSO Traffic Unit responded to investigate the scene. The preliminary investigation determined the driver of the Chevy van was traveling southbound on Meyer Road, behind the John Deere tractor. The Chevy attempted to pass the John Deere tractor when the collision occurred. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision. The critically injured passenger was also not properly seated in the van at the time of the collision.

The names of the involved parties are not being released at this time. This is an active investigation and more information will be available at a later date.

The 100 deadliest days for U.S. roadways span from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind travelers to follow the rules of the road and stay patient during peak traffic times.
