Rathdrum, Idaho – On Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at approximately 2320 hrs. a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Deputy was assisting the Idaho State Patrol (ISP) by providing traffic control at
the scene of an injury traffic collision on Highway 41 near Sturgeon Road.
As the deputy was seated in his patrol vehicle, with its overhead emergency lights activated, blocking the roadway and attempting to divert traffic around the collision scene, it was struck by a vehicle headed south on Highway 41. Fortunately, neither the deputy nor the other involved motorist were injured, the collision resulted in major damage to the patrol vehicle. ISP is handling the collision investigation and alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all motorists that when you come upon a collision scene, traffic stop or any other incident where an emergency vehicle has its emergency lights activated, please slow down and traverse the area in a very cautious manner for the safety of all.
