Hauser Lake, Idaho: This afternoon at around 1:40 p.m. the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office assisted Post Falls Police with a shooting that occurred in their city. During this assist, a report of an assault with a firearm was called into the 911 Emergency Communication Center in the area of Hwy 53 and Hollister Hills. Several units responded to that area to investigate the incident. While responded to the location, it was learned a male subject came to a residence with a weapon and then left on foot. It was later reported that a vehicle was taken from the area without permission.
As units arrived in the area, the stolen vehicle was located unoccupied. It was also determined that this incident was possibly related to the incident that occurred in Post Falls. Due to the nature of both incidents, the Joint Agency SWAT Team was requested, as well as Spokane County Air 1.
As units were setting up a perimeter, a vehicle was observed driving along the railroad tracks along Hwy 53. Several units attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle failed to stop and attempted to elude law enforcement in the field between Pleasant View and McGuire south of Hwy 53. After a short pursuit, the vehicle became disabled and the suspect was eventually taken into custody. It was confirmed the male who was taken into custody was involved in the shooting in Post Falls.
Detectives and Deputies are currently on scene investigating the thefts and crimes that occurred in the county. The shooting in the City of Post Falls is being investigated by the Post Falls Police Department. Any questions related to the shooting are being directed to the Post Falls Police Department. The names of the victim and the suspect are not being released at this time.
At this time it is believed all the parties involved in the above crimes have been taken into custody and there currently are no threats to the public. Some of the surrounding schools and bus routes were put into a safety hold or re-routed as a result of the above incidents, but have resumed normal operations.
