[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Pursuit in Coeur d'Alene Leads to Arrest of Wanted Person

Coeur d’Alene, ID - On December 7, 2018, at approximately 3:54 P.M., a Kootenai County Sheriff’s Detective assigned to the North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force, located a wanted person, Mitchell C. Michael, 32, driving a vehicle near the intersection of N. 4th Ave. and E. Best Ave. in the City of Coeur d’Alene, ID.  Law enforcement had previous information Michael was armed and was is possession of illegal drugs.

A Coeur d’Alene police officer initiated a traffic stop and Michael fled in the vehicle.  Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office K9 Handler Deputy Nelson, took over the pursuit as it went east into neighborhoods.  Michael drove into a dead end road at N. Rose Ln near N. 9th St., where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.  Dep. Nelson quickly deployed K9 Pogo.  K9 Pogo pursued Michael and made contact with Michael.  Michael was taken into custody without further incident.  A loaded pistol and methamphetamine was located at the location of the arrest.  Michael was treated at Kootenai Health for the K9 contact wound and then transported to the Kootenai County Public Safety Building.

Michael was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of methamphetamine, attempting to elude a police officer, resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and the original arrest warrant for resisting/obstructing a peace officer. 

Michael has been booked into PSB 30 previous times for robbery, drug possession, battery, probation violations, and numerous other offenses.
