Why the study commission should not recommend taking away the elected County Sheriff position from the citizens as well as the other elected positions.
The Sheriff will discuss his experiences with "hired" vs. elected positions, why he believes removing elected positions from the people and hiring/appointing them (any of them) under an executive/manager, which is under the control of a board, is NOT a prudent idea.
Elected Offices have served the people of this great county well for over a century. The checks and balances between the elected positions are an example of a working system. A change to this existing form of government is simply a power shift away from the people to the BOCC and an unelected bureaucracy. The horrific lawlessness being played out across this country is happening in cities with "hired" administrators and Police Chiefs.
