Sheriff Seeks Clergy Members for New Advisory Coucil

COUER D’ALENE, Idaho – On his first day in office, Sheriff Robert Norris is making good on a campaign commitment, to forge strong relations throughout the community, understand community needs, and involve the public in the future of the Sheriff’s Office.  He is starting by asking local members of the clergy to assist in forming a new “Sheriff’s Clergy Council.”  The goal of this council is to assist the Sheriff’s Office with communication on a variety of subjects/concerns in Kootenai County.

Sheriff Norris is asking local religious leaders to take part in the newly formed Council to give feedback to the Sheriff’s Office on community concerns.  During these tumultuous times, the aim is to improve communication amongst our clergy, their congregations, the public, and the Sheriff’s Office.

“In the era of COVID 19, many people are managing their risk by limiting public appearances,” said Sheriff Norris. “Religious leaders meet with thousands of Kootenai County residents weekly, which keeps them more aware and in tune with the challenges our community faces.  As your Sheriff, I believe they are a valuable source of information and ideas on how to handle community needs, as well as coordinate and communicate with citizens on community concerns.”

The Clergy Council will meet with the Sheriff quarterly, or as needed based on the needs of the community.  Sheriff Norris is hoping for a great response from the areas’ clergy to participate and give input. Pastors who lead a congregation and are interested in this new and exciting outreach, are asked to email Capt. Kim Edmondson at kedmondson@kcgov.us or call 208-446-1315.

“My plan as Sheriff is to work as a partner with all aspects of the community. With COVID, our clergy have faced many challenges and have a lot to navigate during this difficult time,” Sheriff Norris said. “They are leaders in our communities, and we plan to work hand in hand with them to help keep our communities safe and give the best service we can to all citizens.”
