[ARCHIVED] KCSO Responds to a Vehicle vs Building Accident in Hayden

Hayden, ID: On September 24th 2020, at around 1:50 am, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and Northern Lakes Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a vehicle that lost control and ran into a business on Government Way.

It was determined that Shaylan W. Mattinsahoss, a 22 year old male from Spokane Washington, was travelling northbound on Government Way approaching Honeysuckle in a 1995 Chevy Suburban when he started to hydroplane on the wet roadway.  The driver accelerated to try and regain control, however this resulted in him crossing the center line and going into oncoming traffic.  The vehicle then jumped the curb on the west side of Government Way and slid sideways into the Fuki Restaurant building.

Deputies on scene determined that alcohol was not a factor, but even through the driver stated he was only going 25 M.P.H. it was determined that speed along with the vehicle’s bald tires were the cause of the accident.

No one was injured in the accident, however the building sustained some moderate structural damage.
