Feedback on Hazard Mitigation Plan Draft

KOOTENAI COUNTY RESIDENTS

INVITED TO REVIEW AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN DRAFT

Kootenai County, ID: – The Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is excited to present a draft of the 2020 Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan details the hazards and risks that have the potential to impact the County and potential strategies to mitigate these hazards.

Kootenai County residents and the business community are invited to review and provide feedback on the plan.

“Mitigation planning is an essential strategy to ensure the County is aware of new and existing threats to our community,” Sandy Von Behren, Kootenai County OEM Director said. “The public’s participation will assist our emergency preparedness staff in identifying which hazards are of most concern to our residents and businesses. The public’s input is also essential for us to identify and prioritize the services, disaster-related projects, and capabilities the community may need during an emergency.”

For more information about this plan, please contact Rachel Irish at Rirish@kcgov.us or call the Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management at 208-446-1775.

The U.S. Federal government requires local and state governments to have a FEMA-Approved Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan as established by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 in order to qualify for Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) project grant dollars. These programs are critical sources of Federal funding, especially for a community that wants to proactively initiate mitigation projects using PDM dollars, or for a community that needs HMGP funding following a presidentially declared disaster.
