Rathdrum, ID - The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted felon following a short pursuit from a traffic stop. On 1-30-2020 at around 12:00 p.m., Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving violation. While checking the driver to confirm his driving status, Deputies learned the male, who was identified as William L. Newman, a 44 year old male from Post Falls had a felony probation violation warrant. The original offenses were battery on a corrections office, and domestic battery in front of a child.
When Deputies went to contact the driver to place him under arrest, he drove off which initiated a pursuit. The pursuit went northbound on Hwy 41 from Lancaster and was stopped shortly after as a result of a Pursuit Intervention Technique. The driver then attempted to flee on foot and was caught by K-9 Pogo and his handler. Newman was arrested on his active warrant and felony eluding. He was also charged with giving false information to police and possession of paraphernalia. Newman has an extensive history with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office since 2011 with several arrests to include arrests for aggravated assault, domestic battery, drugs possession and probation violations.
