High Wind Warning - Wednesday

Kootenai County, ID - The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning from Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening. Northeast winds of 45 – 50 mph are expected with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Potential impacts for this event can lead to power outages and downed trees. If you are traveling on Wednesday this may lead to difficulty driving, especially for high profile vehicles. Be sure to tie down any outdoor objects, such as holiday decorations to avoid them being blown away.

With these winds, they will bring colder temperatures at the end of the week possibly down to the single digits. If you have plans to be outside during this time be sure to bundle up and dress warmly. Cold temperatures like these can lead to the potential for frostbite with prolonged skin exposure.

To prepare for the upcoming weather plan ahead by checking to see if you have an alternate heat source if the power does go out, such as a generator or fireplace, or check to see if you can stay at a friend or family members house. Plan for strong crosswinds when driving and keep two hands on the wheel. Winter weather can cause extremely dangerous driving conditions; by planning ahead and being prepared, you are working to ensure your safety and the safety of others out on the roadways. Keep a basic winter survival kit in your vehicle: flashlight, batteries, blanket, snacks, water, gloves, boots, first-aid kit, and never let your fuel tank go below half full on winter trips.
