Helicopter Support Team

ABLE1 (Airborne Law Enforcement)  is a Bell Th-67 helicopter owned by the non-profit Kootenai County Regional Air Support and was purchased by private donations in 2022 and continues to operate by community donations.  The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office operates the helicopter to support regional search and rescue missions along with other first responder missions regionally.

 ABLE1 is equipped with a FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) camera which can be used detect heat on the ground and also equipped with a Trakkabeam searchlight that has 22,500 Lumens.  Able1 also utilizes Night Vision Goggles, moving map system, police radios, and computer systems. ABLE1 is operated by volunteer pilots with thousands of hours of experience and sworn deputy Tactical Flight Officers.
