Monthly Meetings:  We meet the 1st Monday of each month.  

(Exceptions: Tuesday, 9/3 due to Labor Day.  No meeting in December.)

1st Quarter “Surprise” Communications Exercise1 – This is an unscheduled drill that will take place, unannounced, sometime during the 1st quarter of the year.

02/17 (10am-2pm) - “Winlink” – Learn to set up Winlink on your computer.  Location: OEM

03/16  (10am - 12pm) - Quarterly Communications Exercise2 

2nd Quarter “Surprise” Communications Exercise1 – This is an unscheduled drill that will take place, unannounced, sometime during the 2nd quarter of the year. 

04/13 - “Introduction to Amateur Radio” – This educational event is for anyone interested in ham radio and will cover the basics of licensing, equipment, and how to plug in to the ham radio community.  

05/18 (10am-12pm) - Quarterly Communications Exercise2 

06/22-6/23 Field Day – An annual event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) to test emergency capabilities.

3rd Quarter “Surprise” Communications Exercise1 – This is an unscheduled drill that will take place, unannounced, sometime during the 3rd quarter of the year.

08/6 (4pm-8pm) - “National Night Out” – A public service event with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.

09/14 (10am-12pm) - Quarterly Communications Exercise2 

4th Quarter “Surprise” Communications Exercise1 – This is an unscheduled drill that will take place, unannounced, sometime during the 4th quarter of the year.

10/5-10/6 - Section Emergency Test (SET) – An annual event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and administered by the State ARRL.

10/12 (10am-2pm) - “Chirp” – Using Chirp to set up your radio

10/19  (10:19am) - “Great Shakeout” Exercise – An international drill designed to teach people earthquake safety.

11/9  (10am-12pm) - Quarterly Communications Exercise2

1Quarterly “Surprise” communications exercises will be held immediately after ARES/RACES operators receive an “Alert! Kootenai” message via cell phone text or email.   Operators will tune in to the KC7ODP repeater for check in.  The first ARES/RACES operator to arrive will be net control.  

2Quarterly communications exercises may involve any or all of the following: OEM radio room, Panhandle Health, Kootenai Health, 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, home stations, exercise partners such as adjoining counties, CDA CAP (Civil Air Patrol) squadron, and unaffiliated Amateur Radio operators.  Transmission modes such as VHF voice, VHF digital, mobile telephone voice and text, FRS radios, and Google Docs or Google Sheets may be utilized.  Exercises may include transmission of messages in ICS format.
