K-9 Patrol Teams

The K-9 Team presently has four teams consisting of one handler and one dog each.  They are all dual-purpose dogs for patrol work and drug detection. Specialized breeder/trainers import the K-9 dogs and both handlers and dogs complete extensive training prior to certification.  These teams take enforcement action, conduct evidence collection, provide security, provide public education, and assist with crime prevention. The canine unit trains their dogs at a variety of locations throughout Kootenai County.
