VOLUNTEERING

Kootenai County Volunteer Search & Rescue

Purpose/mission:

VSAR is an all-volunteer, non-profit, search and rescue group serving the citizens of Kootenai County in northern Idaho. VSAR operates under the authority of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, most often responding to missing person incidents.

VSARVolunteers are sworn volunteers with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. There is an Advisory Board that meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 P.M. at the SAR building located at 10865 N. Ramsey Road in Hayden.

VSAR's main focus is on Search Management and ground search efforts, including use of ATVs and snowmobiles. Many of our members are also certified trackers or dog team members. Membership is open to anyone over 18 years of age.

Membership requirements:

If you are interested in joining VSAR you will be asked to submit an application and background packet to the Sheriff's Office which includes a background check. No special equipment or training is required to join. Current First Aid and CPR training are required for Members, this training is provided by our unit. After passing the background check you will be required to attend some intense standarized training in order to be deployed on search and rescue missions. Meetings:

VSAR generally meets twice a month, once on first Wednesday of the month at 6:00 P.M. at the SAR building fora business meeting. The third Thursday of each month is the training meeting. Fundraising:

VSAR is supported entirely by donations from the community and some reimbursement for search expenses. If you are interested in making a donation please send an email to the address below.
