Idaho Prison Rape Elimination Act (IPREA)
Sexual abuse and sexual harassment seriously hampers the mission of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office to provide a safe and secure environment for offenders and staff. In accordance with IPREA, the Kootenai County Jail has established a zero tolerance standard regarding sexual abuse and sexual harassment. IPREA sets the standard that protects Eighth Amendment rights of federal, state, and local prisoners, making the prevention of sexual assault a top priority.
The Kootenai County Jail has developed uniform guidelines and procedures to reduce the risk of in-custody sexual assaults and sexual misconduct.
The Kootenai County Jail supports the prosecution of persons who commit acts of sexual misconduct and sexual assault in its facility and will ensure that an investigation is completed for all allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
