The Kootenai County Sheriff Department’s Animal Control Section operates under the Patrol Division. The Section is comprised of one Senior Animal Control Officer/Training Officer and two Animal Control Officers. The Animal Control Section is tasked with enforcing animal laws provided under Idaho Code Title 25, Chapter 35 as well as the applicable County and Incorporated City Ordinances. In addition, the Animal Control Section is responsible for kennel inspections and the licensing thereof and the investigation of animal bites resulting from domestic animals. The dominant workload revolves around dogs, cats and livestock but they also handle situations and questions relating to many other animals.
If you have questions or concerns about the care or treatment of any domesticated animals or wish to report a violation of an animal control law/ordinance, please call the Sheriff’s Department at 446-1300. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department strongly encourages everyone to spay or neuter their pets and would like to remind everyone that all dogs over 6 months of age are required to be licensed and current on rabies vaccinations.
